Powderhorn Park Homeless Encampment 2020

In the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic the number of homeless people climbed due in part to joblessness, mental illness, and substance abuse. After the looting of Target at Lake Street and Hiawatha, police cleared out an encampment at the East base of the Martin Sabo bridge. With no place to go, they migrated southward to Powderhorn Park in South Minneapolis. Soon it developed into two main encampments–East and West. (Photo by Twin Cities Almanac, 2020).
